INDIGENOUS-LED ENERGY PULL
Featured event led by Phoenix-Two Spirit & Ms. Jay Wood
This energy pull ordeal is based upon many Indigenous Ceremonies. And when lead by Indigenous peoples, it brings respect, acceptance, and honour of their cultural history and their traditions. Phoenix Two Spirit (Cree First Nations) and Ms. Jay Wood (Algonquin) are humbled to facilitate this ceremony.
An energy pull can be many things; ceremonial, spiritual, cathartic, transformational, and energizing. An energy pull is not a top/bottom activity, nor is it a macho/ego/pain/power trip. It is an ordeal ritual that, depending upon your intention, can help you to find a "release", or help you to connect to your spiritual or cultural beliefs. It is up to the individual participant to allow, and follow, their own connection. The pull will allow your personal energy to open to the connections/visions/teachings that you receive during your “dance”.
Participants are welcome to join in this ritual energy pull either as a supporter, witness, or puller. Each has an important active role, therefore supporters and witnesses are requested to bring their energy into the circle by bringing a drum, sticks, or other instruments to share. There will be an opening circle to share info about the Energy Pull.
Pullers should bring a support person with them as needed for aftercare. An altar will be available to place your personal ceremonial objects. Participants will be pierced on the upper chest or back and connected to either a center ring with others, with a partner(s), against a fixed object, or by themselves depending on venue accommodations.

A Festival-Style Event You Will Love
PLAY
Clothing-Optional, Sex & Play Positive anywhere on the grounds at any time (outside of food areas). We respect your play and know that you will play within your skill level and be courteous to other folx in the immediate area. A reminder- no gun play nor race play permitted. We have three dungeons set up- a queer space, a women's space and a men's space. Equipment and cleaning supplies are provided and every individual is responsible to clean their play area.
HOSPITALITY PARTIES
Any attending group has the opportunity to host a "hospitality party". Preferences go to clubs, businesses, and other organizations. The hour party is held in your own cabin area. Each group is asked to provide 1) one snack, 2) one drink (please provide virgin options for those not wanting alcohol), and 3) one type of play for attendees. The purpose of the hospitality is to introduce your group to all weekend attendees (inclusive of gender and sexuality).
FIRESIDE STORYTELLING
CONTEST
We choose a representative of the Women of Drummer movement every year utilizing a judging panel and a specific set of rules (see application at the bottom of the page). The purpose of the title is to give a new person the opportunity to learn how to lead, facilitate play and courageous conversations, and understand and learn about the diversity amongst US regions and other places around the world.
ART SPACE
Women of Drummer from around the world are invited to participate in an art show taking place throughout the weekend (see application below)! We ask our artists to bring erotic themed works to match the WOD movement. Many pieces are for sale and attendees may choose to support our artists by purchasing items. Women of Drummer received 15% of the purchase price to support the 2024 event.
OPEN SPACE
The Women of Drummer movement is relatively new, but women have always been a part of the Drummer contests and magazine. Judy Tallwing judged the contest, Vi Johnson was interviewed in the magazine, Pat Califia (pre-transitioning) was a columnist, Terrie Anderson and Max Steiner were producers of Drummer regional contests, etc. We honor those that came before us by listening to their stories by the camp fire in the evenings.

You are welcome to bring your own cooler (we recommend keeping any food you bring inside your car, or inside a heavy-duty plastic or metal-clad cooler.) Ice can be purchased at the Kinky Cafe to keep your perishable items and beverages cold.
May I Bring my Pet?
Sorry, pets aren’t permitted (certified ADA pets only). Please don’t bring them, as you and your pets will be asked to leave. If you are traveling with your pet and need boarding info, Ramblewood recommends contacting Hickory Animal Hospital in Hickory, Maryland (approx. 11 miles from camp).

Does WoD Sell Alcohol?
WoD does not sell alcohol. You are welcome to bring your own. All applicable Maryland laws still apply – you must be 21 or over to consume alcohol at camp. (Please note that anyone found to be selling alcohol to others will be asked to leave, with no refund.)
What about other Substances?
Note that illegal drugs are just that – ILLEGAL and may not be at Ramblewood. Adults ages 21 and over may use legally purchased or home-grown recreational cannabis in the state of Maryland. However, just as we ask cigarette smokers to please not smoke in areas frequented by many campers, that courtesy also applies to legal substances.
Who Is Welcome at Women of Drummer Weekend?
We welcome everyone. Women of Drummer has one firm rule- don't be an asshole! Some examples of asshole behavior are playing over your ability, violating someone's consent, playing when intoxicated, assuming your wants are more important than anyone else's. We Do This Together! Enjoy and allow all others to enjoy as well.
Is ASL Provided?
ASL interpretation is available for scheduled on-stage performances; and for workshops and other special events with prior notice. Contact us at womenofdrummer@gmail.com if you’re planning to attend and need ASL interpretation. We will do our best to accommodate your particular needs. Volunteers with moderate to high levels of ASL proficiency are also needed for things like Registration/Welcome, Art Space and throughout the festival. Please contact us well in advance to join our team! Discounted festival admission is available for those willing to help out in this important area of the festival.
What about Wheelchair Accessibility?
The camp is situated on a large slope, some parts steeper than others. There are flatter areas as well. Blacktop roads and paths lead to the major event buildings, as well as to several grassy areas. Event buildings are accessible via ramps, the occasional short gravel driveway, and sometimes a few feet of grass. The pavillion where the roundtables take place is accessed via a fairly steep grassy hill. Vendors are located mostly indoors (wheelchair accessible) in the same building as camp dining hall. Play areas are held in several locations around the camp, all of which are wheelchair accessible. There are wheelchair accessible port-o-janes in several locations around the camp.
Are Cabins Accessible?
Wheelchair accessible cabins are comprised of 2 cabin areas under a single roof, each sleeping 10 – 13 persons. Each cabin area has a bathroom with two toilet stalls, one of which is larger/accessible; and two shower stalls, one of which is larger/accessible. The larger shower stall has a bench installed, however, it is strongly suggested that you bring your own bench if you need one. (The bench that is installed is slippery and sub-optimal.) The two sinks in each cabin area are on a closed cabinet with no space underneath the sinks for footrests .Other residence cabins mostly have stairs. If you require a wheelchair accessible cabin, please specify that when you register; and please register your partner and any others who need to stay with you, at the same time.
How do I Get Around the Land?
For mobility concerns anywhere in camp, we offer a golf cart shuttle, piloted by our friendly taxi volunteers! Festival staff & golf cart drivers are equipped with walkie-talkies and can “radio a ride” for you, from many locations on the land.
Can I Grill or Use a Stove?
Sorry, but unapproved open flames are prohibited at the camp, so please leave all grills, camp stoves, etc. at home. You are welcome to bring foods that you can enjoy “as is” from the package or from your cooler. Other festie-goers might be able to share info about options that can work for various food restricted-diets; feel free to reach out to them and join discussions in the Drum Circle Facebook page or Women of Drummer Facebook Page.
How Are Cabins Assigned?
You are asked whom you would like to share a cabin and our producers choose a cabin that fits the number in your group. If you are coming alone, we place you in a cabin with others are by themselves. Cabins at the camp have electricity. CPAP users are encouraged to choose cabin accommodations and to arrive early to facilitate choosing a bed that’s suitably close to an outlet.
